Let’s try this.
I have given you three fill in the blank sentences. Please complete them all in according to their directions and then use them in exactly how you completed them, but in any order, in a story or poem of any length. Hope that’s not too confusing and I hope you enjoy!

1) In exactly three words, please describe your bathroom.
2) Every time she (pronoun of your choice) walked into the _______, she smelled the inevitable ________ of ______.
3) It was always strange, that in the photograph they looked ______ _______ (up to four words).

Writing Prompt 6/17/13

I hope that all who celebrated Father’s Day had a lovely day yesterday.

Today’s prompt focuses on writing the adventure of a character who is buying a new friend a birthday gift to bring to a party for that person tonight. Some things about this friend:
1) As mentioned, the character does not know this person very well.
2) The character would like to know this person better and hope that the gift impresses him or her. The interest need not be romantic, but there is an agenda, even though it might not be conscious. Maybe this person is going to be the next head of the neighborhood association and the character thinks all the park fixtures should be repainted, or that parks really should be for “neighborhood only use.”
3) After the gift has been selected, it turns out that the character will not be able to attend the birthday party after all (working late, kids throwing up, etc). The character must make sure that the gift, card, and a plausible excuse are delivered to the residence of the birthday celebrant.

Have fun!

Writing Prompt 6/14/13

Today, the United States celebrates Flag Day.

Take out a piece of paper and draw your own flag. What would it look like? What are the colors and the shapes, images, and designs? Think about it — this will be the flag flying on the front of your limos in your motorcade. Extra work and credit: the flag motto.

Writing Prompt 6/12/13

Say your reader reads that a character is wearing a read shirt, which is all well and good, but if you are able to typify the “red” as the color of “spilled red wine,” or “last nights’s tomato sauce,” there is just a little added interest for the reader. Likewise, a person’s skin could be the color of dead leaves, or tapioca, or dust, or mud, or newborn mice. Just a thought on how to boost your style.
